2018 Freedom Festival & WesTex Connect Fireworks Spectacular

The 2018 Freedom Festival is a 501c3 Non-Profit group that is organizing a special 4th of July Event, culminating with a large Fireworks show by Wes Tex Connect. It was formed with the intent of making this an annual event in Abilene each year. The dates for the events in 2018 will be Tuesday evening, July 3rd and Wednesday, July 4th.

The planned list of events includes a Tuesday evening parade in Downtown Abilene, with some kids’ activities and possibly a special patriotic movie presentation at the Historic Paramount Theater. There will also be opportunities for kids’ activities after the parade.

The events on Wednesday, July 4th will be located at the Expo Center of Taylor County grounds. Included in those events will be live musical entertainment, a Car Show, a Motorcycle show, Food Trucks and food vendors, Kids activities [i.e. – bounce house, petting zoo, face painting], vendor booths and a VIP area for sponsors which will include food and refreshments. Also, there will be special VIP parking area near the VIP tent, which will be close to the H-E-B Music stage.

The committee has budgeted a minimum of $20,000 in paid/purchased advertising in various media and social media to promote the event. Also, www.AbileneFreedomFestival.com

The event will offer admission to the general public and parking at the Expo Center. Admission is being finalized. Kids under a certain age will get in free.

We are also having a conversation with a carnival provider and AISD about possibly using the Shotwell parking lot for a small carnival.

The Freedom Festival will be coordinating all activities for the full event. Wes Tex Connect will be providing fireworks performance, which will be launched east of the Festival Gardens in Nelson Park.

The committee is made up of a wide variety of local citizen volunteers that are donating their time, some products, as needed and resources to the event. It includes local business owners, restauranteurs, city council members, TV, Radio, Billboard and newspaper representatives as members.
